OUR BEERS - Availability varies

FLAGSHIP: "HARD CASE IN YOUR FACE" - DIPA

ABV = 7%

STYLE = DOUBLE IPA

The story of this beer..

We crafted this beer for one reason.  WE LOVE IPA’s.  Its big and bold like a winter storm. We call it the Adult version of a Juice Pack.  This fun to drink DIPA screams “There’s an orange in my Christmas stocking”.  We wanted to bring modern beer to our audience that is aromatic, lazy and hazy like your first trip off the Rock to a tropical destination.  Lets say hello to “HARD CASE IN YOUR FACE”

Loaded with late addition hops and we can’t help but set the stage here with this DIPA, the hops are in your face.

Appearance and Taste…

With an appearance and color we describe as hazy crazy, your eyes will admire the flame like the hue of the beer with a soft rocky head.  The nose on this beer says BOOM!  Your taste buds will fight with the hops as they jump out of your glass.  Bright, fresh with a massive hop aroma.  The hops man the rudder here.

"STAY HOME BEER" - APRICOT WHEAT

ABV = 5%

STYLE:  APRICOT WHEAT ALE

SUMMER SEASONAL BEER (WAS COME HOME YEAR BUT COVID MESSED WITH OUR PLANS!

The story of this beer...

When any Newfoundlander is vacationing it’s a simple and fair question to ask: “When did you get home?”

Home. Is. Newfoundland.
Our Apricot Wheat Ale celebrates being home, back on the island. For us, it’s more of a personal thing and tribute to growing up and having our grandmother cooking apricots on the back of the stove. She loved her apricot jam! Let’s say hello to our summer seasonal ale we titled, “Come Home Beer”

Appearance and Taste…

When the apricots are loaded to the gunnels, the tart taste has no choice but to grab you like a furious tropical storm. It’s ever so juicy, styled as hazy, and has that tart aroma that will jump over the side of any painted orange dory.

Pairs very well with homemade bread right out of the oven smothered in summer.

"CHIN MUSIC" - APA

ABV = 5.2%

STYLE = AMERICAN PALE ALE

The story of this beer..

During earlier times in Newfoundland, not owning an instrument was no reason not to celebrate & rejoice.  Story tellers would say, if a group of mummers did not have an instrument with them, the host for that night would sing “chin music” which is a mnemonic rhyme that mimics an accordion or fiddle tunes, so that during celebration we could dance.

This beer is music to your chin.  It is juicy, with huge tropical aromas, undeniable balance, yet smashingly slammable.  If a blonde married an IPA, this is their brew child.  Categorized as an American Pale Ale clocking in at 5.2% ABV, you soon realize that once you have a sip of Chin Music, you will want to lift your chin to ask for another.

Appearance and Taste…

With an appearance and color we describe as tangerine bright, this beer provides a modern flavor profile, our take on a hop forward Ale, where American Hops take center stage to this kitchen party.

Pairs very well with anything related to summer!

“THE PORT AU PORTER” - ROBUST PORTER

ABV = 6%

STYLE:  ROBUST PORTER

The story of this beer..

This is a very special beer for us at Secret Cove Brewing.  It has been planned for many years and our hope is that you enjoy this special release as much as we loved making it.  If you are lucky enough to have grown up in a small rural community, when life was simpler, then sit back and fall in love with our latest Craft Beer we’ve proudly called - “The Port au Porter”. For the people who call Port au Port their home and those who visit the islands best kept secret, this beer is for you!  Welcome home!

Appearance and Taste…

With an appearance and color we describe as a chocolate lovers paradise, the soft mouth feel, combined with the complex and rich German grain bill provides the perfect roasted character reminiscent of chocolate and coffee.  With a firm but med low  hop bitterness, this Porter strikes balance between the residual sweetness and the carefully selected highly kilned specialty grains.  Who doesn’t love freshly baked homemade chocolate cake, just like your grandmother made?

Pairs very well with soft vanilla ice cream, and homemade chocolate cake !

FLAGSHIP: "MALT WATER JOYS" - BROWN ALE

ABV = 5%

STYLE = TRADITIONAL BROWN ALE

The story of this beer..

We crafted this beer to describe where the heart is, here at home, in Newfoundland.  Like the resilient people who call this land home, and to those who have had to leave to find work, and especially to those who choose to give up the opportunities abroad and seek a simpler life close to family and the island we love, we get it, there’s no place like home.  Tip your glass to a beer we are proud to call “Malt Water Joys”.

Appearance and Taste…

With an appearance that jars memories of your grandmother making homemade pancake syrup on a wood burning stove.  Curiosity alone will draw you in for a sip.

Clean and balanced with a pleasant biscuit-like background, a slight toffee flavor hidden behind a well rounded balance of caramel and a subtle hint of chocolate.  Hops here take a back burner approach.  We are showcasing the UK malts.

Pairs very well with a Newfoundland Caramel Log.

FLAGSHIP: “JAMES BLONDE 00709”

ABV = 5%

STYLE = Blonde Ale

The story of this beer..

We crafted this beer with you in mind.  It’s a fun easy drinking craft beer for those interested in craft beer but are not sure where to start.  Built with familiar noble hops and a grain bill we sourced abroad.  We hope to illustrate to those curious about Craft Beer where beer is heading in Newfoundland.  As the name implies, we tip our hat to our area code and to a soon to be famous agent James Blonde.

Appearance and Taste…

With an appearance and color we describe as antique gold, you soon taste the roundness and clean aftertaste but without that big beer tang.  We carefully dialed the fermentation temps on this one, to bring you a fresh, and not much in the way of bitterness.  Its attractive, bright and refreshing.  Clean and balanced with a beautiful rocky head, the bitterness is quick, and vanishes with no aftertaste.  Unlike your typical lager, this Ale opens up your interest in local craft beer.  Hops here take a subtle showing, built on several noble hops with a tiny flare of a surprise aroma addition.  We are showcasing the UK, Canadian and German malts.

Pairs very well with Shed or Kitchen Parties!

"OAT TO NFLD" - AMERICAN OAT PALE ALE

Style: Devoted Pale Ale
ABV = 4.9%

The story of this beer...

Akin to Newfoundland’s official anthem where traditionally the first and last verses are sung, this Hoppy and Devoted Pale Oat Ale is delicious from the first sip to the last.

Appearance and Taste...

Featuring a signature smooth and silky mouthfeel, this orange delight is triple dry hopped with Classic American hops which playfully represent this very attractive summer ale.

Pairs very well with patios, chips, beach fires, and random acts of silence.

"NEWFOUNDLAND LIGHT & SOUR" - SEASONAL SOUR WITH NFLD BERRIES

Style = Berliner Weisse with Newfoundland   RHUBARD, PARTRIDGEBERRY, STRAWBERRY  (SUMMER 2020 VERSION)

ABV = 3.8%

The Story of this beer...

 You waited, now we are Reddy!  If you are from the West Coast of Newfoundland, there's a good chance your grandmother has cooked with Rhubard or Partridgeberries.  We've spread this on our first Berliner Weisse Sour to express our love for local wild berries.

Appearance and Taste...

 It’s slightly Tart, its Light, it’s Crushable, and it’s Thirst Quenching. Best of all, it’s crafted with locally foraged Newfoundland Partridgeberries.  With a tight carbonation, we've crafted a sour that will make you want another.

Pairs well with patios and beer gardens.

FLAGSHIP: "WHEN IN STOUT"

ABV = 4%

STYLE = FOREIGN IRISH STOUT

The story of this beer..

We crafted this beer for many reasons… the first being, we love Stouts!  The first of several stouts to make an appearance, our “When in Stout” is a low ABV easy drinking Foreign Stout that brings a little bit of Ireland to our wonderful Island, Newfoundland.  Whether its the creamy mouth-feel or the dark lure of the grains we believe this is a stout for the ages.  Historians describe this beer as a “glass of the black stuff”, however we like to quote Mark Twain here, “when in doubt, tell the truth”.  Truth said, you will love our “When in Stout”

Appearance and Taste…

With an appearance and color we describe as black gold, you soon taste the roundness and fresh aromas of roasted barley, flaked barley and pale chocolate.  We carefully selected the finest UK and Canadian Malts which take front stage in this crisp, well balanced beer.

Built with Canterbury hops from England which date back to 1838.  Described as having an earthy, sweet silky and ever so mildly bitter flavor.

Pairs very well with Music and Friends!

"AHEAD BY A CENTENNIAL" - SEASONAL SESSION IPA

ABV = 4.8%

STYLE = SUMMER SESSION IPA FEELS LIKE DIPA

The story of this beer..

Could a DIPA be reborn as a summer beer? We say yes by.

‘Cast in a golden light’ with emphasis on full body, full flavour, we mashed in at higher temps, then we placed Centennial hops as the headliner with El Dorado, Amarillo, and Simcoe carefully placed in the supporting role in this Session IPA.

What’s in the name?

Centennials are the first generation to never know life without social media or the World Wide Web. Undeniably, we are all behind the times, but today we are Ahead by a Centennial.

Tropical and Piney, with Bite. This beer already has its summer body with its ABV clocking in at 4.8%.

Pairs well with meat!

"HOP A RYED IN MY DORY" - RYE DIPA

ABV = 7.6%

STYLE = RYE DOUBLE IPA

The Story of this beer...

We crafted this beer late at night for a Sailor's Delight.

With a balanced yet big punchy hop aroma that will leap outta your glass, this beer is held together firmly by a solid backbone of Canadian Rye which delivers a spicy complexity that is sweet in the center and round on the palate.

Loaded with late night hop additions, the hop aroma oozes Mango and Citrus with a sweet Apricot finish, with images of an overloaded Tall Ship filled with Rye Whiskey in it's belly, ready to travel through an intense Tropical Storm. Calling all Canadian Snowbirds who wish to travel down south, here's your vacation Back Home.

Appearance and Taste...

With an appearance and color we describe as a cross between Sunset-Orange and Deep Amber, your palate will shout Tropical Apricot Jam in a Mango Smoothie, with a side of Fresh Papaya. The nose in this beer screams Tropical Fruit, Citrus Peel, Orange Zest and a cheeky Peach Fuzz.

Pairs very well with grilled Salmon, or Spicy Baby Back Ribs marinated in a Canadian Rye Whiskey BBQ Sauce!
